The beginning of this year 40 Macaque monkeys were released back into the wild on an uninhabited island after spending months or even years at the rehabilitation center of the Jakarta Animal Aid Network in Bandung, Indonesia. The location of the island was kept secret to keep it from potential poachers . Some of them were former Dancing Monkeys – monkeys that are trained to perform silly tricks in public places – but all of them were snatched from a very early age from the jungle. Killing their mother while doing so (it is estimated that for every baby monkey taken another 10 are killed during the process). Their life reduced to a bag of gadgets and living a life in fear. For now these 40 Macaque monkeys will finally be after all a Dancing Monkey. In the habitat and place where they belong. Away from crowded market places and a life of abuse and fear. But living a life in freedom with all the sounds that go with it. Swinging through vast and lush primary rainforest. Singing their own unique song again. And by doing so sharing their story to the rest of the world. A world that at the end we created. In that sense is their story as well our story.
